Day 6 as Jorie Cheer Reads!

{ Which is also going to serve as my Wrap-Up post! }

{short blurbs of what I found;

Friday night notes:

I had fully intended to make my routes through the book blogosphere on Thursday night, however, what I had not expected was to be greeted by a fierce and ominous thunderstorm which kept me offline for the greater portion of the evening hours! I was in the process of blogging my thoughts about Uncovering Cobbogoth at the on-set of the storm itself, whilst in the process of setting up my route for #ArmChairBEA! Going through the blogosphere each night has been so enjoyable on my end, that I was going to surprise everyone (as at that point in time I had hours to spare!) and extend my route by nearly thricefold! I wanted to visit more of the original bloggers I had mistakenly considered part of my ‘route’, and also, I wanted to duck back and re-visit those I had the pleasure of meeting on the route I was given! All these became ‘best laid plans’ because by the time I finished editing my book review, my eyes were a bit knackered and after what happened earlier this week, I did not want to tempt fate!

Therefore, I quickly tweeted out a note saying I’d make amends on the morrow and thus here I am! I also wanted to let everyone know a bit of a surprise, as I originally felt I did not have the time to compose my thoughts in order to get these short essays out into the world, but last night I felt a spark of ingenuity equal to my creative heart! I am going to be writing and posting my response to the follow #ArmChairBEA Topics between now & Saturday night:

  • Literature (Monday’s topic)
  • Author Interactions (Tuesday’s topic)
  • Expanding Blogging Horizons & Novella / Short Story (Wednesday’s topics)
  • Beyond the Borders (Thursday’s topic)
  • Middle Grade & Young Adult (Friday’s topic)

Saturday night notes:

The following essays will now be composed throughout this coming week, as aside from having a BIG! heart as a #cheerREADER, the hours were not on my side! :( I booked myself quite full throughout the #ArmChairBEA to the brink that I simply could not juggle visiting the lovely blogs in the book blogosphere whilst remaining true to my commitments for blog tours, guest features, & my weekly (beloved!) twitterverse chat: #ChocLitSaturdays! Friday night everything felt hopeful, but storms were starting to brew again and I simply could not read as quickly as I had hoped to finish The Collector of Dying Breaths! I always want to honour the work I am reading and write my observations as I move through the story itself. Therefore, I knew even though I posted my review hours ahead of midnight, my eyes and my stamina were simply not going to carry me forward! I did not get the proper chance to finish editing my #ChocLitSaturdays Guest Feature until lateron in the early morning hours.

I was going to write more but I quite literally had to walk away from the computer! I was so knackered!

Sunday night notes:

I think the exhaustion of the week caught up with me on Saturday! Although, I was thrilled to peaches I could participate in the very last! Twitter chat for the #ArmChairBEA as well as the beautifully lovely convo ahead of the official chat, as I learnt that no matter how little or much we can each contribute to the event, we are all appreciated for the time we can give! I appreciate knowing this about the #ArmChairBEA because I would not change anything about my week — the blog tours, book reviews, and author guest features I was able to bring to Jorie Loves A Story were a true honour and blessing! The only part that I had guilt in is not realising how little ‘extra’ time I would have to give to the #ArmChairBEA and on that level alone, I felt I had failed somehow as a #cheerREADER.

I no longer feel this way — due to the overwhelming warmth of support coming from the #cheerREADER/cheerleader squad themselves and from Tif as well! I could not have been further blessed to have been a part of something that re-defines how to curate community and connections as book bloggers and readers alike! I think this event helps signify the fact that we all want to reach out to each other, unite together, and learn more about books, authors, and the grace of knowledge that reading can provide us one story at a time. I am personally thankful I took a chance to participate this year, even with a full plate!

I most definitely want to participate NEXT YEAR for the 2015 #ArmChairBEA! I will re-apply to be a #cheerREADER with one exception: I am going to leave the week ‘free of blog tours / book reviews’ so I can post the daily topics as they come along, and will have plenty of hours to give to my cheer reading duties! I only regret the hours flew by me so quickly this year! Whoa! How did a week dissolve so fast!?

Blogs I am Assigned to Visit as a CheerREADER: (Days 4 – 6)

  1. #34: Jellyfish Reads | Beyond the Bordersa beautiful post about LGBT fiction & how one reader found solace in the diversity she found inside the book she reads
  2. #34: Writing About Books | Young Adults a book blogger worried about not finding her niche in YA; I left suggestions
  3. #34: I Read it & Weep | Wrap-Upcelebrating what we gained out of being a part of the event overall
  4. #134: Somewhere Only We Know | MG & YAcopied over the same suggestions as I felt they would be ones that she would enjoy herself
  5. #39: Historical Fiction Notebook | Beyond Bordersa book discussion about #diverselit & which books to read past “The Kite Runner”
  6. #39: Words & Peace | Wrap-Upi appreciated reading the suggestions she made for next year! and surprised she is going to start vlogging! wow!
  7. #39:  Istyria Book Blog | Book to Movie Adaptations MG/YAfondly remembering my Harry Potter years
  8. #139: Every Free Chance Book Reviews | Middle Grade / Young Adultfound this to be completely brilliant & loved the message! thankful to realise i am following her as I want to visit more often! wow. :)

I  must commend the organisers for giving us small batches of blogs to visit per day! I do have a few suggestions on how to improve the cheer squad for 2015 – one idea of mine is to have each Team of #cheerREADERS connected to each other on Twitter. My Team Captain Shannon had attempted to get our information ahead of time; I turnt mine in, but I never heard back from my Team Captain afterwards. In fact, without Tanya & Tiff I would have been plumb lost! I can only hope my team members fared well because I could not find them myself. I think the connectivity through Twitter helps when you need to send up a signal flare & ask for help or field a question that is pertinent. I would also suggest that if a Team Captain *disappears* there should be a sub-Captain for the Team, as your operating without a guide nor a person to go-to when you need them.

The main complaint I had was in understanding ‘which blogs’ to visit for our dedicated routes. I think they should be blocked out such as: Blogs: 34, 134, 234, etc. And, allow for each blogger to verify they understand the route. For me, I was confused & boggled by the ‘numbers’; which I realised too late was due to being dyslexic. I am not sure why the way my Team Captain Shannon explained it confused me & the way in which Tanya explained it later made more sense; sometimes with learning difficulties it is a ‘shot in the dark’ to process and get on the same page!

Also, I fielded reading a LOT of issues with CAPTCHA via Twitter; although I do agree they were mind-boggling, difficult, and down right frustrating, I do not think as #cheerREADERS we should be allowed to ‘opt-out’ of leaving a comment. After all, one blogger thanked me for mentioning their CAPTCHA was still active. Maybe others had forgotten as well!? I think we should *always!* leave a comment if we are on the cheerleader squad as isn’t that part of the purpose of the Teams!? To leave comments when no one else wants to take the time OR has the time to give to the comments!? I also tweeted a few CAPTCHA shout-outs but felt we need to truly just handle that off-Twitter. Leave a small blurb in our comment for the #cheerREADERS visit and then email our Team Captains directly. Am I wrong!?

I plan to continue to visit more blogs throughout the coming week as I write about the topics myself. I want to make more rounds & get to know the bloggers a bit better in the process! I am so thankful the linky’s are still on the website, so that even if you wanted to extend the #ArmChairBEA a bit past the week itself – you can! And, to me that simply rocks!

Jorie’s Day 2 as a #cheerREADER
Jorie’s Day 3 as a #cheerREADER

I appreciate everyone who left me a comment during the #ArmChairBEA; either on the journalling posts I contributed for being a #cheerREADER OR on one of the blog tour/book review/guest author features! I appreciated seeing new readers & visitors alike stopping by to talk and spend a bit of time in the comment threads! I loved seeing more inbound traffic coming from new countries and new bloggers alighting on my little bookish niche as well! I always enjoy getting to know new book bloggers & readers! Never be shy to leave me a note! Also, for those of you who have recently followed me on Twitter, I am slowly going through my feed to sort out which new follower is from the #ArmChairBEA! If I have not followed you back OR added you to the list for the event, please leave me a comment here OR tweet me! :) I want to make sure I find each of you! As by the time next year’s #ArmChairBEA arrives, I’d love to say I’ve been able to get to know you! :)

Inspired to Share:

Sometimes a book comes into your life that you were not quite expecting to arrive, and on the wings of its arrival is a book trailer whose initial response gave me this pause for reflection in the twitterverse:

I hope as you listen to the vocals & the chords that your heart is taken into the story’s premise as much as my own, and know that this is an upcoming next read of mine which I will be showcasing on Jorie Loves A Story! In the comment threads let me know what resonated with you as you heard the vocals against the book synopsis if you clicked over to the author’s website: amyimpellizzeri.com

Just in case you missed it, I created the badge at the top of the post due to all the joy I had participating in the #ArmChairBEA! I will be using it for my essays this week & will be switching out the badges I used on my journalling pages as well! Beyond happy!

Day 3 as Jorie Cheer Reads!

{short blurbs of what I found;

click to see my comments per blog!}

A major thunderstorm & monsoon rainy season has plagued my area for most of the week since the #ArmChairBEA began on Monday! I was the one who was surprised by all the heavy lightning storms (we do get rather bad electrical storms!) AND the monsoon rains as I had not realised our Summery Storm Season was jumping into our lives once again! I think anyone who has heard the word ‘hurricane’ OR ‘tornado’ knows why the phrase “Storm Season” is not my favourite time of the year! In all honesty, I try to avoid worrying about it until it arrives, and thus, hallo Summer! The only thing I could do is just draw a deep breath and realise that the lightning would stop at some point today & I could get back into my blog to run final edits over my book review of Getting Waisted! As I knew I would have plenty of hours to make my rounds through the book blogosphere!

One thing I brought up last night through the twitterverse and on my journal of Day 2, is that there are a HEAP of blogs participating this year that are using the most complicated & twisted CAPTCHA codes! Twisted here refers to the fact I actually had one blog where it would ‘blink!’ a new code to key in before you had any chance to key in the first one it gave you! :( Sighs. I do not mind comment ‘moderation’ as I have that enabled as well, being that it serves as my second stop spam filter. I do not have CAPTCHA on my blog for obvious reasons. I simply wanted to say tonight that those who have it on their blogs I do feel bad because although I will always go the extra mile to leave a note, I am finding that other #cheerREADERS are lamenting that if they find CAPTCHA they will pass your blog over!

Ergo, may I advise listening to the wisdom of this tweet which was tweeted a bit prior to when I started my route:

Blogs I am Assigned to Visit as a CheerREADER:

  1. #34: Writing About Books | Novellas & Short Storiesenjoyed sharing my wanderings in the fantasy & science fiction realm of short story anthologies! i hope i inspired a next read!
  2. #134: ChaChic’s Book Nook | Expanding Blogger Horizonsa truly inspiring book blogger from Southeast Asia who wants to seek a way to transition into a book industry job; fully blessed for her experiences thus far as a book blogger
  3. #39: Take Me Away | Expanding Blogger Horizons & Novellas & Short Storiesenjoyed talking about two shorts I have read recently this Spring as much as noticing my comment did not post due to a ‘blinking’ comment moderation! i do hope it was saying that anyway! :(
  4. #139: ChaChic’s Book Nook | Novellasi decided to share how i felt that the joy of reading an anthology is the hidden joy of finding a new author to appreciate & follow into new stories past the shorts!

I double-checked to make sure no one had posted overnight and therefore would still be within my numbered route to visit! I do admit having a smaller route each day is helpful as it is easier to work around such things as migraines (such as I had on Days 1 & 2), freak monsoon rains (all three days!), and the inability to always get online if your power grid is threatened by severe lightning! (never a good thing!)

Extra Book Bloggers I Visited: {Day 2 Blogs}

{these are the blogs I originally thought I was meant to visit!}

I had a bit of an earlier start today to visit all the lovely book bloggers! And, although I want to write a few blog posts myself to help celebrate, I am not sure when I will have those ready! Yet, somehow between the heavy rains & lightning, I still end up visiting bloggers rushing towards midnight! Laughs. I do always have the best of intentions! I could not get to as many as I had planned! Tomorrow, perhaps!? Is it ironic I always visit the same number in both categories!? Hmm,…

  1. #54 – Book Date | Introduction & Literaturea fellow Romance & Women’s Fiction reader! Reminded me that I need to read “Virgin River’ sooner not later!
  2. #59 – Spirit of Children’s Literature | Introductiona wonderful blogger who knits together the spirituality of books with the joy of reading Children’s Literature & Adult title selections; a blog I want to re-visit as i am able too!
  3. #64 – Bluest Ribbon | Introduction & Literatureahh! CAPTCHA! as I start to find these again, I will put them in my notes! and here I was celebrating what she had to say about literature!
  4. #69 – Notes of a Reader | Introductionthought it was marvelous how she choose to blog about books to keep her knowledge of English! Fun Stuff for Your Blog via pureimaginationblog.com

B R E A K I N G N E W S of the #ArmChairBEA!! Guess which #cheerREADER do not expect to find her name in the daily prize winners announcement!? Yes. You guessed right if you said “Jorie!” I had so much going on thus far into the event that I thought for sure my ducks were not in the proper row yet to even be in contention! Yet! I have been merrily visiting the bloggers & leaving lots of wicked sweet happy notes for them to find! :) I originally volunteered as a cheerleader for the event because this is what I love to do! Seriously! I love to visit & get my chat-on! Brings me a heap of joy knowing I’ve lifted someone’s spirits & that they in return appreciate my visit.

I am overwhelmingly humbled by the response coming into my Twitter feeds & in comments left on my blog &/or on the blogs I have visited! You guys are the best!!

Day 2 as Jorie Cheer Reads!

{short blurbs of what I found;

click to see my comments per blog!}

One of the hardest things for a bubbly girl like me to realise is that there are moments when you’re not physically able to visit as many blogs as you originally had hoped you could nor accomplish what you first set out to do during the #ArmChairBEA! At this point, I am not sure if I can post the daily topics as their meant to post, but I do want to work on answering the topics that mean something to me! Likewise, I woke up today realising that I had not heard back from my Team Captain for Team 4 and tweeted out for advice. What I found out is that my entire plan of which blogs to visit & which blogs I already had visited was the completely wrong set of blogs & logic of understanding the linky! :( I quickly emailed both Tif (@ArmChairBEA) and Tanya (@Momsvictories) to let them know that I could not be the only member of Team 4 with the wrong information which means NO ONE on my team is visiting the right blogs nor in the right order! (at least I think so?)

I decided not to delete all the hard work of copying the blogs & links out of the linky so those are now stored in a draft email, and as I get able too, I will select blogs to visit based on that original list for Monday & Tuesday, as I was quite happy about where those routes were going to take me to visit! I must say, this has been a difficult start for the #ArmChairBEA for me, and I am simply thankful I thought to send out tweets OR I would still not be on the right track at all! :(

Originally I was told to comment on every #4 & #9 blog in repetitive order, thus I earmarked the list accordingly. Apparently I was meant to visit each of these instead: Comment on Blog #31-40, 131-140, 231-240, 331-340, 431-440, etc. Now I feel properly overwhelmed! I wish our Team Captain had broken this list down a bit further to help us not feel like we were swimming in a sea of assignments! And, why cannot we not ask for back-up cheerleaders?! I am so lost.

(after receiving more emails from Tanya & Tif) Except that I now believe I was truly meant to comment on: blog #s 34, 134, 234, 334 & only as back-up commenter for blog #s 39, 139, 239 and 339! I seriously think this part of the volunteering for #ArmChairBEA needs some clarification & help next year! It is not complicated but it IS complicated for a newbie to sort out! And, numbers are NOT my strength as a dyslexic!

To each of the book bloggers I visited yesterday or early this morning, know that I whole-heartedly thought I had understood my routes and I do not regret one moment of being with you! It was a pure joy for me to visit!

Blogs I am Assigned to Visit as a CheerREADER:

  1. #34: Based on a True Story | Authors  – i was so surprised that they felt that you could not contribute anything to an author during a live meet & greet.
  2. #134: Exploring All the Genres | Author Interactions & More than Wordsi enjoyed visiting a blogger who is as excited about visiting with authors as I am!
  3. #39: Readical | More than Wordsit was a joy to read another blogger loves to meet authors but she spoke about how to temper being a ‘fangirl’ which i cannot personally relate too

Extra Book Bloggers I Visited: {Day 2 Blogs}

In-between early afternoon & late evening, Jorie ducked off-line for a proper siesta! She is not pushing her eyes past their limits nor is she overtaxing herself as who wants to incur a migraine to return!? Therefore, rather than focus on a set goal of blogs to visit each day, she is tending to the blogs she is happily assigned & will visit as many more after those as she can each day! The best part for her is to spread joy & happiness throughout the #ArmChairBEA!

  1. #4: Gizmo’s Reviews | Author Interactioni appreciated getting to know someone who wants to go to as many book conventions as they can even when they know it might not be the best timing for them to attend
  2. #14 – Pages Unbound | Author Interactionblogger posted a great FAQ & Guide on how to approach authors and how to appreciate live author events
  3. #19 – Fictional Thoughts | Author Interaction  – i enjoyed seeing how someone else is enjoying visiting with authors in person!

I am cutting it short tonight with my cheering as I do not want to overtax my eyes after having had that migraine pop up out of nowhere last night whilst I was online as well. I want to get enough rest not only to cheer more tomorrow but to finish the edits for my book review of Getting Waisted. I do tweet out a notice of each of the book blogs that I am visiting and the only thing I had forgotten to do is tweet which blogs had CAPTCHA, but if you were to follow my feed tonight, you would know that I found a fellow cheerleader who decided to talk to me about her experiences as much as I shared a few of my own! Thank you, Stacy @thenovellife!

I also wanted to say that even though sorting out my ‘route’ in the book blogosphere was a complicated nightmare for me today, now that I have everything ‘re-sorted’ and ironed out, I am enjoying being a #cheerREADER to the max capacity! I cannot wait to do this again next year (already, I know!) as I will know better not to schedule so much during the same week! :) I wonder how everyone else is doing tonight!? And, I am most worried about my Team Captain Shannon @ The Most Happy Reader!?!

No music for Jorie today! I am recovering from a migraine! I am still planning to visit everyone but I know now that I cannot visit within the hours I am meant to go to each blog! :( My apologises! I truly am enjoying my role as a #cheerREADER! :) I am planning to visit more blogs on Wednesday!

I appreciate everyone who left me a comment thus far along! :)

I posted a blog tour book review today as well:

“A Beauty So Rare” by Tamera Alexander! (histfic)

Tomorrow I post my book review of “Getting Waisted” by Monica Parker! Humour/Memoir

ArmChairBEA 2014

Day 1 as Jorie Cheer Reads!

{short blurbs of what I found;

click to see my comments per blog!}

The hardest part for me was sorting out how to know which blogs I was meant to visit & leave one of my typically bubbly comments upon! Apparently it was quite too simple as all I had to do was go through the daily linky and select out the #4 & #9 blogs of the day! :) How lovely! I decided to blog a list of the book bloggers I have visited on the off-chance someone else would like to visit them too! It is also a happy reminder of which bloggers I visited &/or met through #ArmChairBEA for prosperity’s sake! I will be visiting more bloggers than the ones assigned but as I started a wee bit late tonight in my route, I am most surely going to get to most of the bloggers well after midnight and therefore a bit of a fail on arriving on the first day of the event itself! Sighs. I shall triumph a champion swing on the morrow, instead!

Whilst I visit, I am sorting out each book blogger’s Twitter handle and tweeting out my next stop on the route you will see populate below! Thankfully, I was most esteemed to discover that nearly every blog I visited had a lovely amount of comments on their blogs *before!* I arrived! Including more than my own Introduction post had up to the point of when I started commenting myself! The joy for me was finding participants find my blog post as I was discovering the ones on this list! Isn’t that most delightful!? To have your own blog light up with comments whilst your leaving comments for others!? Ooh, I find it most splendid!! I love comments! And, as I do not always find comments alighting here, I cherish each person who takes the time to leave one!

  1. #9: Icy Cold Reads | Introductiona YA blogger who has a wicked good layout & colour combination! Reminds me of gentle ocean landscapes & Wintry snow bliss!
  2. #14 – Pretty Little Pages | Literature “Welcome to Middle Earth”(loved the topic on the off-set!) Finding out that she’s a Janeite & a Tolkien appreciator was wicked keen!
  3. #19 – Carstairs Considers | Introductioncosy mystery lover & blogs to share the love of reading!
  4. #24 – ebookclassics | Introductiona reader I had crossed paths with in 2013, than our paths diverged – I am thankful to see how far she’s grown as a book blogger! she’s come so far and is quite successful
  5. #29 – The Writerly Reader | Introductiona reader of magicians and romances of which I have not yet explored myself! intriguing!
  6. #34 – Bibliognone | Introductiona reader who connects directly into the heart of the emotion in the worlds she visits on the printed page
  7. #39 – Every Free Chance Book Reviews | Introductions & Literaturetwo readers who have such a diversely unique choice in reading whilst celebrating the joy of discovering authors
  8. #44 – Unconventional Bookviews | Introduction & Literaturea Mum who juggles a book blog, an active reader schedule, and the devourment of literature!
  9. #49 – Readical | Introductiona reader who adores Starbucks & had to start over her book blog as she lost the one she had before this one

{ I was misinformed about my visiting blogs

& therefore visited different ones instead}

THANK YOU to Tif @ArmChairBEA, @PunkFarie,

& @MomsVictries (Tanya) for helping me!

(there is a longer explanation on Day 2)

The following log below is how my ‘official’ CheerREADER Daily Routes Count:

These are the blogs I was meant to visit & will begin on Tuesday to do so:

  1. #34 – Bibliognone | Introductiona reader who connects directly into the heart of the emotion in the worlds she visits on the printed page **ooh, how wicked! I was meant to go here!**
  2. #134: Linus’s Blanket | Introductionenjoyed the discovery of our routes towards literature came about through the same stories & authors! book recommendations too!
  3. #234: The Steadfast Reader | Introductioni was a bit surprised she did not want any more film adaptations based on novels
  4. #39 – Every Free Chance Book Reviews | Introductions & Literaturetwo readers who have such a diversely unique choice in reading whilst celebrating the joy of discovering authors **ooh, how wicked! I was meant to go here!**
  5. #139: Curl Up & Read | Introductiona fellow writer who is a voracious reader who cannot pick a favourite of the year anymore than I could!
  6. #239: The Runaway Reader | Introductiona bubbly fourteen year old who made me remember how much I would have loved a book blog at her age!

Extra Book Bloggers I Visited:

*note: due to browser security conflicts I was not able to visit #4: Just Another Rabid Reader, of which I tweeted my Team Captain & emailed her directly as well. I wanted to make sure others could visit OR if there was a true issue with the blog that it could be resolved.

Music via Indie Artists I found on CDBaby whilst

Jorie’s cheerREADER route takes her places:

{as these are in my personal music library

I listened a few more than once!}

  • “Truth & Sky” by Acres and Acres
  • “My Heavens” by Adrienne Pierce
  • “Got a Song Coming to You” by Ari Shine
  • “Sirens of Hyperion” by Audiomachine

Jorie’s first #ArmChairBEA,

can you sense the excitement!?

As this wicked sweet badge will imply, I am not merely participating! in my very first #ArmchairBEA, but I am an officially a member of the C H E E R L E A D E R team (#4! Captain: Shannon @ The Most Happy Reader) as a C H E E R R E A D E R! Perfect fit, if you ask me! As I was inspired to create the hashtag “#bookcheerleader after conversing with Tif ahead of the event itself! Since then, I was inspired to create a new ‘twitterverse’ identity via creating my own badge via Canva off the inspiring collective which makes up #StoryDam! (one of the weekly Twitter chats I like to duck-in on! all of them are threaded through the List I curate on Twitter except my own #ChocLitSaturdays – the tag is in my Profile & the archived chats are alighting on my blog!) Leading into the event, I happily celebrated my parents 40th Anniversary, which was filled with surprises on both sides, as I was the one who knew that each of my parents was conspiring to surprise the other in a way that they did not want the other to discover! Laughs. It was a pure blast for me, except a bit tricky at times as they would each come to me to check on something within mere seconds or minutes of the other leaving! I was tickled to peaches seeing how the end result turnt out to be one of the best Anniversaries! Not a bad way to begin the #ArmChairBEA than in a sea of lovely joy! Likewise, the ‘Monday’ this wicked event kicks-off is Memorial Day stateside, which means right after I post this lovely Intro Note I’m off for hot dogs & ice cream! Not a bad way to start the week, eh!? I wonder how everyone else is starting Monday!?

When I return I will be blogging up a storm, digging into my duties as a #CheerReader, as well as donning my cape of bubbliness as I gather the routes through the book blogosphere and alight on each of the lovely bloggers who are adding their links to the linky! I cannot wait to start meeting everyone and getting settled into spreading the joy of blogging whilst we celebrate the book during #ArmChairBEA! I can only imagine how wicked lovely it will be for those who can attend the BEA in person this year! I am most esteemed to find all the lovely bookish souls I’ve interacted with or crossed paths with since I started my blog are also taking an active role this year:

 An Introduction : of Jorie

Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging? Where in the world are you blogging from?

I am self-educated through local libraries and alternative education opportunities. I am a writer by trade and I cured a ten-year writer’s block by the discovery of Nanowrimo in November 2008. The event changed my life by re-establishing my muse and solidifying my path. Five years later whilst exploring the bookish blogosphere I decided to become a book blogger. I am a champion of wordsmiths who evoke a visceral experience in narrative. I write comprehensive book showcases electing to get into the heart of my reading observations. I dance through genres seeking literary enlightenment and enchantment.

You can read more about on under “My Bookish Life”. I am a Creative Dyslexic Writer who created Jorie Loves A Story on 31.March.2013 (blogoversary!), launched to the public on 6.August.2013 (blog birthday!), and sync’d to Twitter on 13.November.2013! As I curate Jorie Loves A Story as a labour of love, I elected to become active on two fronts: the book blogosphere (carrying on the joy I had found prior to creating my book blog!) AND the twitterverse! For this reason, I am exclusively only active in these social media portals! I do not cross-post my reviews either, as I feel that the main reason I wanted to create my blog was to have a place to write a heap of breadth and depth about the books I am choosing to read & share with my readership. I am not a traditional book reviewer in that sense! For more information on what I am hinting at please read: Jorie Loves A Story : an Introduction.

I am blogging from America, in the Southeast corner of the United States. I am a Southern Book Blogger who longs to relocate where blissful Wintry snow greets you after Autumn and Summer’s wrath does not include fierce tornadoes and hurricanes! I’d like to breathe in the joy of grey overcast skies which linger far longer than the ones I have now, and where being outside is a blissful treat year round rather than a ‘blink of an eye’ hiatus between Summer & Summer!

A great re-cap of my first thirty days as a book blogger was written with the idea of it being a monthly feature! I was not able to keep that promise to myself, but I am in the process of resuming where I left off, as I love looking back on what I have accomplished as much as seeing how everything came together!

Describe your blog in just one sentence. Then, list your social details — Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. — so we can connect more online.

My blog is comprehensive, joyful, and full of heart with honest in-depth reviews which I hope resonate my observations as I read each book.

The best way to stay in touch with me is to click-over to my About.Me page* (linked to my Twitter profile & top of my blog’s sidebar), as I curate the links which allow you to stay in touch with me, on top of the latest posts for Jorie Loves A Story, as well as knowing how to find me on Twitter.

(*) a few years later I developed a landing page: Jorie Loves Bookish Blogs to replace my ‘About Me’ page.

What was your favorite book read last year? What’s your favorite book so far this year?

I will simplify this to what was the ‘best book’ I’ve read within the last few days!? As I have the tendency to appreciate a heap of books I read per year, and I am never able to quite narrow down the books to a list of 10, much less narrow it down to a selection of one! Therefore, over the past week I was introduced to two wickedly dynamic story-telling styles: the first was a genre-bender where you were placed inside the world of ‘comic-fantasy’ where superheroes of the age I adore were jettisoned into a sweet new (epic level!) fantasy! Giving us “Awesome Jones“! The author stopped by to give the impression of how her genre-bender was writ as well! I will be sharing an antidote of an experience whilst I was out and about towne when I broached the subject to my parents and had an unexpected conversation with a fellow superhero appreciator! Likewise, on the complete opposite spectrum of literature in the historical fiction branch, I soaked so vividly into the time of Hatshepsut I nearly had trouble re-adjusting back into our time continuum! And, as you will find this is the precise reason I am passionate about reading and book blogging! I love discovering authors and their stories which take us to whole new worlds of realistic thought and observation! Awesome Jones gave me a reason to vie for a cape and Hatshepsut (Daughter of the Gods) instilled an awareness of how she inspired Cleopatra & Elizabeth I to know they could rule as women! And, to me that is why we all should read! We read to give us an understanding of what we can only imagine, and endear us towards empathy for everything that deserves a deeper scope of thought! We give our hearts to the page, and the inked spilt words give us the joy of transporting to different timescapes and realities as we drink through the words left behind by their writers! There is such a beautiful circle between the writer who creates the story and the reader who consumes the words and carries the characters off the page!

What is your favorite blogging resource?

First and foremost, I cannot empathsis enough how much I love! being a WordPress blogger! As far as blogging on WP.com NOT through WP.org / self-hosted blog platforms! I have looked into self-hosting and realised that WP.com will happily be able to take care of my needs a book blogger for a very long time yet to come! I love the ease of maintaining my blog and the few bits of ‘extra help’ I would like to give a shout-out of gratitude to the following:

  • Ravven – is the lovely artistic soul who created my blog’s identity through the creation of my blog’s badge & banner!
  • Squeesome Designs – created the lovely badges which bespeak of coffee, libraries, & reading! As well as the “green banners” in my sidebar!
  • Parajunkee Designs – created the blog headers per post, such as “Book Review”, “Author Interview”, etc. As well as post lovelies like those on this post!
  • Fun Stuff for Your Blog by Pure Imaginationcreated the blog dividers which I simply adore!
  • Grab My Button – offers a way to place code on your blog for people to save your blog’s badge!
  • PicMonkey – my preference for creating collages & other badges when I am not using Canva! Originally I used FotoFlexer.
  • FeedPress – I used to pay a small fee for FeedBlitz, then gave it up. I just recently found FeedPress & love it more!
  • Book Blogging (Database)  – for networking with book bloggers!
  • Lianne @ Caffeinated Life & Hannah @ Once Upon a Time were mentors to me as a newbie blogger!

What book would you love to see as a movie?

Again, this is always a tricky question for me to answer but I think I will go with a Magical Realism choice and say, “The Golem and the Jinni“!!

The best bit to know about Jorie, is that she is a girl who loves to converse about the books she reads & discovers,… she truly does live up to these badges! And, you can follow her journeys inside her Story Vault!

The very best part of #ArmChairBEA for me this year is to be cheering on the book bloggers & the readers who celebrate the joy of reading as much as I do with each book they pick up and consume! This is a convention for those who are bookish & geeky and proud of it! This is a way for us to get to know each other and champion the writers who give us such a hearty story to dissolve into throughout the year! Let us route our way through the book blogosphere and light up the twitterverse letting everyone know that even if we are not in person at the Book Expo America — they have our full support & attention!
