Blogosphere Bookish Memes & Weekly Features

in which Jorie participates:

It’s hard not to see the wickedly prolific bookish in nature memes {questionnaires}, lists, and weekly features or events which book bloggers love to exchange with each other in a conjoined effort of community togetherness! Some blogs even sprout out badges for each blogger to use to generate the cohesiveness per post, per blog! I realise that there is a small minority that isn’t quite enthralled with this section of the blogosphere, but personally a little insight about a reader’s personality isn’t such a bad thing! Afterall, it allows the reader to continue to organise his or her thoughts on a particular stream of conscienceness and it allows their visitors to drop by to see how his/her responses match up against their own! I will use this page to serve as an archive of which of these lovelies strikes my fancy!

Jorie's Box of Joy badge created by Jorie in Canva.

I have been wanting to blog about my excitement about being placed on certain blog tours and/or in receiving books for review direct from authors, publishers, or publicists. I originally came across a weekly meme on Mondays entitled Mailbox Monday and you could say, that my new feature on Jorie Loves A Story is an extended idea from the original! Except to say, with one minor switch-up! Although I attempt to write down when books arrive by Post, I am never quite as certain when the books arrive as I am always reading the next book in hand! Therefore, please join me as I get excited about the books on my shelf which are next in line to read!

Top Ten Tuesday blog banner created by Jorie in Canva.

A weekly meme on Tuesdays, this creative outlet is hosted by The Broke & the Bookish, whereupon each week, book bloggers congregate to pick up the weekly list question, hurry back to their blogs, upload their answers, link up, and start to make their rounds to see what others’ have supplied in response! When I didn’t hear back from them about using the Top Ten Tuesday badge, I created my own!! In this way, I can now participate in the weekly meme that shows up on all the lovely bookish blogs that I like to randomly visit! Each post I make on this meme will provide a link back to that week’s Master Post!

Until That Artsy Reader Girl took over the meme in [2018]!

[ Wednesday memes ]

Library Loot badge created by Jorie in Canva.

Library Loot is a Weekly Event on {Wednesdays} to showcase which books we each have hauled back with us from our local libraries! This is to encourage everyone to realise that if there is a book that tempts you to read it, there is no reason not to stop by your local library either to check it out, place it on hold/reserve, request it to be purchased, or to borrow it through ILL! Most readers have such a steady stream of TBR Lists either written down OR maintained by memory, that it’s nearly impossible to even manage the continuation of purchasing each and every single book that strikes a reader’s fancy! I ought to know, I sort of boomeranged right past my own budget for books, and celebrated with glee over the induction of a new local library! We have five branches now, which makes it rather ingenious if you want to ‘jump your holds/reserves’ or visit a different branch that focuses on a specific topic, subject, or genre!

This specific event originally was co-hosted by: Claire of The Captive Reader and Marg of The Adventures of an Intrepid Reader. When I resumed my posts in [2016] I learnt Linda of Silly Little Mischief was the new co-host! Personally anything and everything that celebrates the love of libraries is something that I am going to be keen on advocating! Be sure to add your linked post to one of their blogs!

*ILL= inter-library loan; TBR= To Be Read

#WWWednesdays graphic created by Jorie in Canva.

I loved the premise of this meme {WWW Wednesdays} due to the dexterity that it gives the reader! :) Clearly subject to change on a weekly rotation, which may or may not lead to your ‘next’ read which would provide a bit of a paradoxical mystery to your readers!! :) Love the concept! Therefore, this weekly meme was originally hosted by Should Be Reading who became A Daily Rhythm. Lovingly restored and continued by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words. Each week you participate, your keen to answer the following questions:

  • What are you currently reading!?
  • What did you recently finish reading!?
  • What do you think you’ll read next!?

After which, your meant to click over to Should Be Reading to share your post’s link so that the rest of the bloggers who are participating can check out your lovely answers! :) Perhaps even, find other bloggers who dig the same books as you do! I thought it would serve as a great self-check to know where I am and the progress I am hoping to have over the next week!

#WaitingOnWednesday badge created in Canva by Jorie using photography (Creative Commons Zero).

a word about ‘waiting on wednesday’:

I have decided to start participating in this book blogsphere meme with a few small changes of how it’s regularly blogged about by my fellow book bloggers. I will either be introducing my current reads of upcoming releases as I am in the process of reading them and/or I might be releasing a book review about a forthcoming title by which I had been blessed to read ahead of publication. The main purpose behind the meme is to encourage readers and your fellow book bloggers to become aware of new books being released which caught your eye and which held your interest to read. Sometimes if your still in the process of reading the books, its the titles which encouraged your bookish heart. I look forward to spending the next seasons of the year, talking about the books I have on hand to read, the books I’ve been reading and the books I might not even have a copy to read but which are of wicked sweet interest to become a #nextread of mine.

A new meme inspired by Waiting on Wednesday is Can’t Wait Wednesday for which this marks my first #WaitingOnWednesday post I’ve been able to share with the bloggers following this version of the meme hosted by Tressa @ Wishful Endings! (Tressa introduces her meme) Here is the post by which I shared my link for the first time.

Originally, I was able to back-trace #WaitingOnWednesday to a book blogger whose blog hasn’t been updated in a very long time and that was Breaking the Spine. However, this meme also had a life of it’s on in the twitterverse as much as I would believe to be true of #bookstagram. Ergo, I attributed it as a free agent of memes on my badge as it’s now a part of the bookish online community and has thus transcended it’s origins. I am also not the only blogger modifying what the meme means to them which warms my bookish heart to no end!

10 Bookish Not Bookish Thoughts banner created by Jorie in Canva.

A weekly meme hosted by Bookishly Boisterous to give book bloggers or any blogger I’d imagine the opportunity to write down their thoughts throughout the week and accumulate 10 affirmatively thought-provoking or happy thoughts which alighted to mind whilst the hours elapsed from one week to the next.

{Official Blurb} It allows book bloggers (and non-book bloggers) to write about pretty much anything, bookish or otherwise (i.e. share exciting plans for the weekend, rants on things they’ve encountered during the week, etc.).

Discontinued Participating Memes: These memes were a good fit for me at the times in which I participated in them, but I honestly couldn’t see myself continuing to join in.

Musing Mondays is hosted by Should Be Reading

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme hosted by Should Be Reading. I have been attempting to decide if I wanted to start participating in this meme for quite awhile now, and when I read an entry on Readerly Musings, I thought, that actually does interest me! I like the writing prompt is musefully creative in its motivation to get the blogger to extort a bit of their personal life into the post! Little pieces of our reading life and world will surely be revealed along the way! And, in doing so, I would imagine we would each come to get to know each other quite well, if only to find the common threads that unite us! Its a bit of free form writing combined with seeking to find commonalities with other bloggers who are as addicted to reading as you are! Wicked sweet!

#1: Summer Reading Picks for 2017;

Past topics which interest me: What are some of your favorite shifter books/ series?; What books do you wish you could go back and read for the first time?; How do you handle DNF books?; Do you re-read books or series?; Book trailers? Do you watch them / do they convince you to read a book?; Are you becoming disenchanted with YA?; Favourite Thrillers?; How likely are you to pick up a book outside your comfort zone based on the reviews?; Which books were you most thankful to read in 2017?; What paranormal / scary books are you hoping to read next?; What series have you been wanting to finish reading or pick up where you left off?; more to come.

(*) NOTE: all topics seen are ones which interest me to write about whilst mindful of the current ones; will be attempting to start these finally during #blogtober & #blogmas 2018! At least that was my plan – however in reality, I realised writing on these topics was not working as well as I had hoped and I’ve decided to give up the meme before I even get the chance to begin it. I do recommend it for those bloggers who love random topics and can write essays about them weekly.

What I like about this weekly feature, is that you get to decide which blog post you’ve made over the last week to ‘feature’ on the Friday Hop! Therefore, drawing more traffic to your blog, and sharing a ‘highlight’ that you feel might appeal to those who are taking part OR those who visit the blogs that participate weekly!
