If your a regular reader or frequent visitor of Jorie Loves A Story, you know I’ve been smitten with the novelists who publish their relationship-based Romances with ChocLitUK for a good two years now! I love being on the cusp of learning about a ‘new release’ whilst I remain patient to see if the Digital First new ChocLit novel will make it to a print release further down the road of it’s lifetime. I don’t mind the gaps between the ebooks and the print editions – as it’s always given me the pleasure of balancing my ‘next ChocLit reads’ to include both Front List and Back List offerings. Thus, I am enjoying being a member of the Reveal Team at ChocLit whilst it gives me a chance to introduce my readers to a variety of sub-genres within Romance I appreciate picking up to read!

Today is quite wicked, as similar to featuring my second Sheryl Browne novel last week, this week I get to re-highlight an offering by Ms Freeman, of whom I previously had the pleasure of blogging about whilst ‘Search for the Truth’ was releasing last year!

I had a personal connection to the Pharma Industry through a close friend and enjoyed exploring the theme of that particular novel ahead of reading it – I’m looking forward to reading my first Freeman novels this year, as I make my way through my ‘next reads’ for ChocLit, as she is one Contemporary Rom writer I think I will truly enjoy reading as she has the tendency like Ms Browne to continuously make selections for her stories which first intrigue me and I think secondly will charm my heart into being endeared by once I have the enjoyment of reading them firsthand!

I was drawn to this new release for several reasons – one, the high and fast life of a race driver can have a few pitfalls along the way if racing comes first against all other pursuits (i.e. it would be easy to have a singular focus and not live outside of the track life) and second, it actually was the title that inferred a bit about the story’s heart, wherein I was happy to see confirmed on the author’s blog via a post she had written about ‘choosing titles’ for her stories!

Let’s happily pause for a moment on this latest release by Ms Freeman, coming up next month in June which looks like quite the lovely month to try ChocLit if you ask me!

New Delta team driver Aiden Foster lives his life like he drives his cars – fast and hard. But, no matter how successful he is, it seems he always falls short of his championship-winning father’s legacy. If he could just stay focused, he could finally make that win.

Resolve begins to slip as Melanie and Aiden find themselves drawn to each other –with nowhere to hide as racing season begins. But when a troubled young boy goes missing, everything is thrown into turmoil, including Aiden’s championship dream.

About Kathryn Freeman

Kathryn Freeman

Kathryn was born in Wallingford, England but has spent most of her life living in a village near Windsor. After studying pharmacy in Brighton she began her working life as a retail pharmacist. She quickly realised that trying to decipher doctor’s handwriting wasn’t for her and left to join the pharmaceutical industry where she spent twenty happy years working in medical communications. In 2011, backed by her family, she left the world of pharmaceutical science to begin life as a self-employed writer, juggling the two disciplines of medical writing and romance. Some days a racing heart is a medical condition, others it’s the reaction to a hunky hero…

With two teenage boys and a husband who asks every Valentine’s Day whether he has to bother buying a card again this year (yes, he does) the romance in her life is all in her head. Then again, her husband’s unstinting support of her career change goes to prove that love isn’t always about hearts and flowers – and heroes can come in many disguises.

Most singletons like me I think consider what it would be like to find the person they are meant to be with before they actually meet them – it’s human curiosity at it’s best, whilst granting a bit of a back-and-forth circulation of ‘what ifs’ if you let it sit for a spell inside your thoughts. I am noticing of late (i.e. since I exited my late twenties, entered my mid-thirties) I am particularly drawn to stories about ‘fresh starts, unexpected second chances and first beginnings’ where characters were neither looking or thinking towards finding a match for themselves, as they were quite caught up in where they were in life rather than leaning on the hope of ‘finding the one’ they were meant to be with all along.

I love reading Romance for a lot of reasons – one it’s simply an uplift of joy to soak inside a Rom – Historical or Contemporary, but I yield to learning as a book blogger my heart is oft wanton for a Historical moreso than a Contemporary – a truth I never noticed when I was a reader prior to being a book blogger, but blogging has a way of putting things into perspective for you! The only interesting bit to reveal against this trend is that I have a high preference for Contemporary Romances on television (specifically on Hallmark Channel) wherein the thematics I love to read in  books carries over into what I like to view in teleplays and movies! We’re such curious lots, those of us who love the Romance genre!

Outside of a few mystery or police procedural series (as noted on my interview with Tom Bale as being my most beloved and frequently watched serials!) I haven’t found a way towards entertaining a story about racecar drivers or the lifestyle therein. It’s part of the cultural identity to most who live in the Southern bits of the states, such as I do, but it’s never been a part of my life aside from noticing how super popular racing is to others! As I was sitting contemplating what I know about racing (as I do know the differences in ‘types’ of races and even know where they’re raced; except most of what I’m most familiar with is Nascar from the Indy 500 to the Daytona 500 to the races up in Talladega and Bristol!) the only thing I could bring to mind was the episode about racing on ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’ where the Rangers had to intervene in order to save a man who was being sabotaged from racing. As said, mysteries occupy my television haunts! Laughs.

The lovely discovery about ‘Before You’ is that it’s centred around Formula 1 racing – the reason this is wicked to me, is because it’s a full stone of a step outside of everything I know about racing culture, lifestyle and the type of cars which buzz right round a track at such speeds to make me want to hide my eyes for fear of seeing a crash! My heart always flutters when I’m thinking about the casualty side of racing as it’s a known gamechanger for those who race and those of whom are left behind in the wake of a tragedy.

I like learning about things I am not as well versed about because it takes me inside a whole new environment to explore and to become acquainted – most enticing is how the focus on the characters inside this novel are set towards finding a path towards each other, when they’ve been living independently so long they nearly forgot to think about being a ‘couple’ and what that would entail for both of them. I like how the story starts out on the presumption about ‘who they were’ before each of them met each other and how their individual histories might in turn influence the chance they have to be together.

Similar to blog tours where I feature book reviews, as I choose to highlight an author via a Guest Post, Q&A, Interview, etc., I do not receive compensation for featuring supplemental content on my blog. I provide the questions for interviews and topics for the guest posts; wherein I receive the responses back from publicists and authors directly. I am naturally curious about the ‘behind-the-scenes’ of stories and the writers who pen them; I have a heap of joy bringing this content to my readers.

Reader Interactive Question:

Have you previously had the pleasure of reading a ChocLitUK Romance novel!? Did you now they regularly release novels with strong female leads and male characters who are a delight to find on the pages? ChocLit truly has found a niche for giving romance readers something hearty to chew on whilst seeking out uplifting relationship-based Rom with just a dash and a hint of intrigue, drama, and suspense!

What do you seek out from a romance novel?

The relationship-based drama, comedy, historical, or suspense? OR the strength of the setting, timescape, and dimensional eclipse of the characters therein!?
