Hallo, Hallo dear hearts!

As you know, I have a hankering for finding new Christmas Romances & Christmas stories every December – this particular story was an interesting find because it is a series in-progress and the extract I have to share with you brought back memories of a tv series I am currently binge watching which had seven seasons. I am currently in the fourth year and moving into the fifth. The hardest part of the series for me is the emotional upheavals you feel as you’re watching it because it is set and rooted in our modern world &  life; especially in the current events of the past decade and a half to where you can directly relate to the events happening in the series.

I love finding series which seek to talk about the condition of living through modern life but also how much courage it takes to find strength in the midst of the most unthinkable news being given to you as a mother and as a father. This series has truly tested me throughout the seasons I’ve been watching it because of the clarity of its scope for story and how well it has continuously followed the lead characters’ lives – each in turn, having their own set of adverse situations and circumstances to work through and always finding solace, serenity and friendship at the heart of what helps them heal through it all.

This particular novel touches on a moment I’ve lived out in the series I’m watching as I just went through the hardest hitting sequencing of episodes this far into it – where you just feel shattered and gutted because of how well the series was written, acted and produced. I hope the characters in this series of Twinkle Falls has the kind of support system the ‘Army Wives’ have themselves or if through the extract I am about to share with you, perhaps they can unexpectedly start to form a support system together.

Here’s to continuing to celebrate my wicked sweet adventure finding new Christmas Romances and stories set at Christmas throughout #blogmas 2020! Happy reading!

Enjoy reading an Extract from ‘A Wedding in Twinkle Falls’
featuring the character Sophie:

Pulling in the parking lot, my phone rings. Furrowing my brows, I tell her, “It’s the school. I need to get this. I’ll meet you inside.”

“Okay.” Bridge climbs out as I push the car speaker button.

“Hello?”

“Mrs. Beck, this is Ms. Thompson, Cameron’s guidance counselor at Twinkle Falls Elementary.”

“Yes, is everything alright?”

“One of the students in Cam’s class had to take a leave of absence because his father passed away.”

Electricity shot through me as I start my car and exit the parking lot. “Where’s my son, Ms. Thompson? Is he alright?”

My heart begins thumping in my ears imagining the thoughts running through his head. When he hears about someone losing their father for any reason, it turns his world on its side.

“He’s okay, but as you can imagine he’s a bit shaken. Cam is in the Principals office examining her model of the solar system. It’s the only thing that seems to distract him when he gets agitated.”

“Yes, he has a smaller one at home. I’m on my way Ms. Thompson. I’ll be there in ten minutes.”

Before I end the call, she reveals, “There’s something else you should know Mrs. Beck. The boy’s father…he died while he was deployed overseas.”

Tears fill my eyes making it difficult to see the road. I pull to the shoulder trying to breathe as she asks, “Mrs. Beck, are you there?”

After two years, the mention of losing a service member still has this effect on me. Holding my hands over my face, I can’t seem to find my words. A video reel of the last two years starts playing in my head.

I sniffle and take a few breaths. “Mmhmm. I understand. —I’m on the way.” I hang up before she can say another word.

Knowing I have to be strong for my boy, I push back the memories of the unexpected visitors showing up on my doorstep with news that changed our lives forever.

I’ve been binge watching “Army Wives” for the past few weeks now and I can attest to how realistically gutting the series is at times especially due to the authentic way in which they wrote the series and how it is produced. The last sequence of episodes involved a soldier being killed in action and it truly gutted me to my core – therefore, I can relate to this scene because it took a lot out of me as a viewer of #ArmyWives to get through the episodes I’ve just seen whilst processing what is happening in the series in the aftermath of their death. It is one of those dramas where you feel as if you’ve become a part of the world its set inside and each time one of the characters has to transition through a difficult part of their lives or experiences such an unexpected loss – it truly affects you.

It is hard to know what to say or do when something like this happens to those you know and care about – I could definitely understand why the boy was affected by the news and also how hard it is to move forward when you’re still going through your own grief. It will be interesting to know how the author works through this transitional stage for her characters and how she handles the resolution at the end of the story. I was hoping perhaps both families might be able to help each other and perhaps find a new friendship out of their mutual loss.
